Alazen slides his keepsake falchion into the relic found at the end of the twisted and corrupt temple. Sweat beads down his forehead and arms as he braces himself for yet another horrible turn of events. After spending a day in the corrupted temple, haunted by undead, chased by evil priestesses and borne down upon by the presence of the goddess of fungi and putrification, Zuggtomoy herself, Alazen can't help but be a little anxious tampering with relics beyond his own knowledge.

Another notch on his sword clicks into place as he slowly slides his sword into the spherical relic. The Orb still radiates a golden flourescent light. He senses it isn't evil but that doesn't mean he isn't doing something horribly wrong. Another bead of sweat trickles down his nose and drops onto the hilt of the sword.

The rest of the party seems to hold their breath as they watch him intently. They don't speak, move, for fear of disturbing the ritual. He prays the wards and spells he placed on himself and the party hold up to whatever feedback the relic unleashes. He laughs to himself as he realizes that if the orb does explode, no amount of wards will stop it from killing them.

Click…

After the last click a blinding light fills the room. Alazen turns away from the sword and relic reflexively and shuts his eyes to the light. After a second or two, he opens his eyes. He is still intact! The light on the relic has dimmed but now the entire room seems to radiate the flourescent glow. The once sickly blue green aura has vanished. The entire temple seemed to have undergone a change. The caverns have disappeared. The fungi and oozes are replaced with columns and altars. The statue of Zuggtomoy has been replaced with the figure of Al'Akbar!

Alazen stares at the metamorphosis in wonder as a voice speaks behind him. "Welcome, young priest of Al'Akbar." Zen whips around to face the speaker. An ethereal figure, dressed in white and gold robes, shimmers into view with a smile. "Thank you for doing what I could not. The task of purifying the temple and returning it to it's orginal state. Al'Akbar has recognized your conviction and would like to offer you significant aid in your quest, priest… Or should I now call you Paladin of the Exalted Path."
